Electronic Life provides research-led consultancy for organisations navigating the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence. Our consultancy is independent, critically informed and tailored to each organisation.

We help partners move beyond general claims about AI towards clearly defined priorities, practical interventions and context-sensitive forms of implementation. Our work is organised across three connected areas.

Experiencing AI

Participatory programmes that enable young people, community groups and wider publics to encounter, question and creatively reshape AI. We develop projects that combine co-design, critical AI literacy and creative experimentation.

Participants are supported not only to use emerging technologies, but to understand how they work, whose perspectives they privilege and how they might be adapted for different cultural and social contexts. The emphasis is on participation, confidence and agency: enabling people to become active contributors to AI culture rather than passive users of technical systems.

Building AI

Strategic consultancy for organisations seeking to develop their capabilities, leadership and long-term approach to AI. We work with cultural and educational organisations to identify where AI can create meaningful value, where caution is required and what capabilities need to be developed internally.

This can include organisational strategy, responsible innovation, staff development and the design of new services, systems or programmes. Our aim is not simply to introduce AI into an organisation, but to build the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed, proportionate and culturally responsible decisions.

Researching AI

Collaborative research and development that advances new ideas, methods and technical possibilities. We bring together researchers, artists, designers, computer scientists, engineers and cultural practitioners to explore emerging questions at the intersection of AI, creativity and society.

Projects may involve speculative enquiry, technical development, experimental prototypes or longer-term funded research. Research AI creates space to test ideas that do not yet have predetermined outcomes, while maintaining clear ethical, cultural and technical frameworks.

Electronic Life develops sustained partnerships with institutions seeking to advance new forms of cultural research, public engagement and technological practice. We work through a combination of listening, research, co-design, experimentation, prototyping, evaluation and knowledge exchange.
